This CD avoids the use of any percussion, electronic or otherwise. And I never use keyboards, just a MIDI guitar controller to control the synthesizers.

My Lagan Love is a traditional Irish song. It was done a-cappella by Kate Bush on a b-side, and on Sinéad O'Connor's 'Sean-Nós Nua' CD. I combine the two feels in this version. If anyone knows why the lyrics in Kate's and Sinéad's version are completely different, let me know. |
America is a classic Simon and Garfunkel song. I follow that version versus the 'Yes' version. |
Besides not using percussion, I wanted to concentrate on the songs and less on solos, so I was looking for nice songs. If I Loved You is from "Carousel" and was written by Richard Rodgers. The cello part is sthe first track I did on my fretless MIDI guitar controller. It is a Casio MG510 with the frets removed, the slots filled and the fingerboard refinished. |

More Sinéad. I was listening to "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got" and thought Feel So Different might be doable. As is my habit, I didn't do much rearranging. |
Roisin Dubh is another traditional Irish song that was on a Celtic Airs CD I bought in Ireland. In one of the listing on the CD package, it is called "Danny Boy" but it doesn't sound much like the "Danny Boy" the crooners sing. On the Celtic Airs CD, this is done with a drone, and uillean pipe. I tried to recreate the sound of the pipe using a heavily distorted guitar and a wah-wah pedal. |
I've done Tori Amos songs, and Kate Bush songs, but never done one by another of my favorite female singers, Jane Siberry. The Walking was my choice.. |
